Photovoltaic system on the roof at Pfeiffer Vacuum
Pfeiffer Vacuum “plants a veritable forest”
Pfeiffer Vacuum has put a further photovoltaic system into operation. The flat roof on the manufacturing building offers an outstanding opportunity for installing a photovoltaic system. A total of 1,003 modern solar modules were set up on 750 m² of space and aimed southward. The system is rated at 75 kWp and supplies around 57,600 kWh of electricity a year. This represents 34.5 tons of CO2 that are saved annually. By comparison: An average German household uses between 3,500 kWh and 4,000 kWh of electricity per year. An inverter converts the direct current produced by the photovoltaic modules into alternating current that can be fed into the electrical system. The contract to install the photovoltaic system went to GeckoLogic GmbH, which is headquartered in Asslar. Products from Pfeiffer Vacuum are used in manufacturing this system and others like it.
Pfeiffer Vacuum had already installed a photovoltaic system on the company’s fire brigade station in 2007. These solar modules supply around 40,000 kWh of electricity a year, while avoiding 23.5 tons of climate-killing CO2 annually. The two systems have a combined output of 120 kWp.
Chief Executive Officer Manfred Bender: “Over the course of the next 20 years, these two systems combined will avoid as much CO2 as 1,250 trees would be able to neutralize. So it would be fair to say that Pfeiffer Vacuum has “planted a veritable forest.”
Pfeiffer Vacuum: Supplier to the photovoltaic industry
What makes the modern thin-layer modules that make up a photovoltaic system so special lies in their ability to conserve high-purity silicon. Instead of using this scarce and costly raw material, a thin layer made up of various materials is vaporized onto glass under vacuum conditions. And numerous system manufacturers place their trust in products from Pfeiffer Vacuum, especially in connection with this type of production operation.
