Theoretical Basics and Applications of Helium-Leak Detection

Target audience:Users, operating and maintenance personnel
Prior knowledge:Fundamental knowledge of vacuum technology
Learning objective:The participants will learn the fundamentals of helium-leak detection. They will be able to check vacuum systems and vacuum installations for leaks and systematically acquire the theoretical background for operation of an industrial leak detection system.

• Terms and definitions in leak detection technology
• Why helium as test gas?
• How do detectors and devices work?
• Physical principles and calculation examples
• Specifications – fit for purpose without overspecification
• Methods of nondestructive testing
• Methods of helium leak detection
a) under atmospheric pressure
b) under vacuum
Applications
Presentation of selected measurement methods and procedures guided by examples from practical experience. The selection of examples will be adjusted to participants.
